WASHINGTON, DC - Get excited, Dead Outlaw fans! The hit musical has just announced its first ever regional production this summer in Washington, D.C. with an extra special guest star stepping into the casket: former Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell!
And just to be clear, we are only reporting on the casting news. The Broadway Beat is in no way speculating about the health of an 84 year-old senator. That would be bad.
The role of the propped-up corpse–which, again, we want to emphasize is an acting role that can only go to a living person who is alive–was not an easy one for the senator to land.
“We saw a lot of people for Elmer McCurdy, but Senator McConnell blew them all away,” said Wilson Havermeyer, director of the production and man who definitely knows how to check for rigor mortis. “His stillness? Electric. His breath? So silent, it was like it wasn’t even there. Why, he was so committed to the role, he even had his aides wheel him in already fully in character. He was born to play this part.”
When reached for comment on his big star turn, the pulse-having senator replied, “Ahhhhh! Oh God, it burns down here! Help! Help!!!!” Which, again to be clear, was him responding to getting burned in a small furnace fire in his basement and in no way a speculation by The Broadway Beat of where the senator may otherwise be residing.
