OPINION: My Art is Resistance, So Stop Asking Me to Do Other Stuff Too

Look, I know the current sociopolitical climate has gotten pretty bad, and it takes work from everyone to make a difference. But I’m very busy with my art, which is an act of resistance in itself, so I don’t think it’s fair of you to ask me to do other stuff too. 

Right now, my time is most nobly spent pursuing my artistic endeavors, because, in the end, what is society without art and artists? Literally dead. So for me to continue single-mindedly pursuing my art is, frankly, one of the boldest acts of service to be taken in this day and age. 

When it comes right down to it, my art is a gift humbly given to a community in dire need of a two drink minimum. In fact, it’s actually a little selfish of you to even ask me for help when you should know my level of dedication to my work and the emotional toll all the applause takes on me. 

No, it’s completely necessary that I carry on the legacy of art as resistance by dedicating all my time and energy to my artistic career, and nothing else.

By continuing to audition, I show courage in the face of fascism, standing as a testament to the fact that art will go on even in the darkest of times, as long as there are those to still bravely pursue it and not volunteer for other stuff.
