NEW YORK, NY – Do you ever feel like you are in Tik Tok jail? Or wonder why your YouTube channel is sputtering? You may be experiencing a new phenomena where it always seems to be Casey Likes and never Casey Subscribes. And you are not alone.

"It's an algorithmic dilemma, really," mused Dr. Andrea Bynum, a renowned digital anthropologist from Pace, as she liked the most recent Heathers Tik Tok, notably without subscribing. "A 'like' is fleeting, a jolt of momentary affirmation. But a 'subscribe,” that's commitment. That's like watching how your neighbor’s kitten moves before playing the Rum Tum Tugger or watching Camila Cabello in Cinderella to prepare for a role in Bad Cinderella. Most performers don’t have that these days."

Meanwhile, local theatre enthusiast and up-and-coming influencer, Trista Thompson, expressed her frustration.

"Every time I see 'Casey Likes this' pop up on my feed, I just sigh," Thompson lamented, trying to figure out why her 1,536 followers aren’t liking or subscribing to her deep dive into the Chess casting. "It's like, okay great, you like it. But are you going to subscribe to my account? Are you going to subscribe to the YouTube channel? Did you even subscribe to Wait in the Wings when they explored Chess? The people need answers, Casey!"

Even Casey Likes himself, when confronted with the level of commitment expected of him, seemed perplexed.

"I... I just click the heart button, you know?" Likes stammered, running a hand through his gorgeous hair. "It's a quick way to show support. I didn't realize I was sparking an entire debate on the nature of digital commitment. I mean, I do subscribe to a few things. Actor’s Equity, BroadwayHD, TDF’s 30 and Under program... Does that count?"

When pressed to comment further, Likes responded with “Wait a second, are you asking me all of this because my last name is f*%^ing ‘Likes’?”

A like is a polite nod in the crowded Retro Bowl hallway of the internet, but a subscribe is inviting someone into your living room. Until creators bridge that gap with content that feels indispensable, we’ll keep getting Casey’s nod without his handshake.
