Report: Every Song in Musical a Reprise

by Kath Dunham. @kathdunham.

NEW YORK, NY - Local composer and lyricist Logan Brisson broke new theatrical ground today by confirming that every single song in her new musical, even the opener, is a reprise, The Broadway Beat has confirmed.

“The reprise is a hallmark of American musical theater,” said Brisson. “It’s really satisfying for an audience to hear a melody or refrain that’s familiar to them because they heard it earlier in the show. So, with my new one, the audience gets to hear those familiar parts over and over and over again with absolutely nothing new. I'm very excited.”

Theater fan Gina Walsh recently attended a preview of the musical and left singing its’ praises.

“I’ve been listening to the soundtrack non-stop,” she reported. “Sure, it gets a little repetitive since every song is repetitive. Especially the song ‘Finale (Reprise)²²’ which ties all the other reprises together. But I love it. I don’t get it, but I love it.”

Tina Lipp, another fan, voiced similarly positive opinions about the musical.

“The reprise that closes the first act is really special,” noted Lipp. “The actors are singing all the same words as they have six times before, but they’re able to put this fresh spin on it by singing it a little slower.”

At press time, Brisson was already workshopping another musical that’s all just one huge opening number, as well as a play that’s just the lights fading to black.
