NEW YORK, NY - We did it, everyone! The New Drama Book Shop is set to reopen on June 10th, and thanks to the thousands of calls, emails, petition signatures and the viral hashtag #DramaBookShopAlsoSellLooseCigarettes, the beloved storefront will officially sell the nicotine sticks along with their vast collection of plays and librettos, exhausted sources confirmed.
“The people were very clear: they wanted to see this staple of the New York theatre community revived, but they also want to buy cigarettes there,” noted new co-owner Lin-Manuel Miranda, who has agreed to test smoke over 1000 cigarettes as part of the negotiation. “I’ve already heard people refer to the new shop as the ‘Drama Cigarette Parlor’ and while that’s disappointing, business is business.”
Fans also requested that one section of the shop be reserved for non-smokers who want to “look at words”, while the rest of the shop will be book-free; just assorted cigarette brands, countless matchsticks, and a community ashtray that somehow raises money for up-and-coming playwrights.
